CHP Ankara deputy Tekin Bingöl, releases survey data, claiming one in three university graduates in Turkey is unemployed.

According to the report, unemployment is now widespread among university graduates in Turkey.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES

In a report published by CHP Ankara Deputy Tekin Bingöl, on the May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, he states that unemployment and inequality are widespread amongst recent graduates. According to the report, as of February 2020, youth unemployment reached 24.4 percent – a rise of 7 percent in the last 6 years. Amongst university graduates, unemployment rose 32% unemployment in that time – a 10% increase. In total, one out of every four youth is currently unemployed.

YOUTH WORKPLACE DEATHS RISING

In recent years, it has been suggested that too many young people are being injured or losing their lives in workplace accidents. According to the CHP report, 2073 young people have died in the past 8 years in accidents in the workplace. In 2012, 164 young people were victims of workplace accidents – in 2019 this figure increased to 246.

EMPLOYABILITY FEARS CONTRIBUTE TO YOUTH SUICIDE

The report also states that rising rates of unemployment cause more young people to commit suicide, with hundreds ending their lives over concern for their future. 1274 suicides amongst 15-34 year olds in the period 2003-2018, were attributed to difficulties in securing adequate employment.
