Union reacts after not getting invited to Coronavirus Summit in Ankara: Discrimination is dangerous

Regarding not being invited to the Coronavirus Summit held at the Presidential Palace, the chairperson of the Confederation of Progressive Labour Unions DİSK, Arzu Çerkezoğlu said; “The Coronavirus Summit was a meeting that was proposed by Disk from the very beginning.”

“Within the confederations of the trade unions, only DİSK called the government to operate social dialogue mechanisms while conducting comprehensive studies on this issue, developing suggestions for measures, informing its members and the public regularly. However, the only trade union confederation not invited to the meeting was DISK which is one of the three workers’ confederations that should be addressed legally about the problems of working life.”

THE SUGGESTIONS OF DISK MAY NOT APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT

“Government and employers may also be disturbed by the independent stance of DISK. However, escaping from negotiation even on such a vital issue concerning public health is not an acceptable attitude. The fight against the coronavirus epidemic and the social destruction it will create is a struggle that must be given together as a society. The public health cannot be protected by personal ideological obsessions, discrimination, and a vindictive stand. On the contrary, this attitude itself creates social damage.”

DISK WILL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE WHETHER IT IS INVITED OR NOT

“The power of DISK stems from organized or unorganized millions of workers who trust DISK. Whether it is included in these mechanisms or not, DISK will continue to struggle to protect public health and the rights of the working class.”
