Main opposition Republican People's Party CHP's local youth unit chairperson for Adana's Yüreğir, Eren Yıldırım has been arrested after getting targeted in a speech by AKP chair & President Erdoğan. Yıldırım had asked where the gathered social aid was being directed to, to the local Social Support Group after which he got into a quarrel with local officials on May 14.

In Adana's Yüreğir, local CHP youth unit chair Eren Yıldırım had been detained with his family after getting into a quarrel with social support workers and later released pending trial. After his release, the appointed governorate's social support structure Social Support Group was a hot topic for AKP chair & President Erdoğan's speech, referring to an armed attack to a similar government branch in the city of Van, "PKK assaulted with rifles in Van, and CHP assaulted in Adana with fists and insults" likening the two incidents to eachother, drawing parallels between outlawed PKK and the main opposition CHP.

YILDIRIM WAS INDEED BEATEN

Yıldırım was taken to Adana 2nd Court of Peace to testify regarding the incident and stated that he was unaware that the person he was having a quarrel with was the local governor, "prior to the beating he took out his gun and filled a bullet. He pointed the gun to my brother's stomach, then when I asked what he was doing, only then he lifted the gun to the air. He then said 'I am the governor'. After this incident I called the police myself."

ARRESTED FOR BLOCKING SERVICES

According to the news report by ANKA News Agency, Yıldırım was subjected to an arrest warrant for "resistance to prevent services & duties" while the quarrel he referred to in his testimony is cited as "implicit admission" of the asasult. In the court order, Yıldırım is accused of attempting to prevent state services & aid from being delivered to the citizens, stating "the suspect threatened the Yüreğir Governor and his bodyguard, according to witness statements. There is strong evidence that there is possibility of crime" which was cited as inadequate grounds for releasing Yıldırım with a judicial control order.

THE INCIDENT

On May 14, Yıldırım and his family were taking a walk after Ramadan Supper in Adana's Yüreğir when they saw governorship's truck unloading food supplies by civilian personnel who were loading the supplies on to trucks belonging to AKP Adana Yüreğir Municipality. Yıldırım went up to the personnel and asked what they were doing, which ignited a quarrel. During this quarrel one person took out his gun and pointed at CHP Adana Yüreğir youth unit chairperson Eren Yıldırım and his family. The person with the gun was originally claimed as the governor's bodyguard. Yıldırım called the police and when police arrived the governor filed a complaint against Yıldırım upon which the Yıldırım family got detained for assault. After their testimonies were taken at the precinct, Eren Yıldırım's father, mother and brother were released; while Yıldırım was sent to court with requesting an arrest warrant for "resistance to public officers and insult". Yıldırım was released pending trial.

ARRESTED AGAIN AFTER AKP TARGETTED YILDIRIM

AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik brought up Yıldırım's case in a party statement and objected to the court order to release Yıldırım from prison pending trial. AKP chair & President Erdoğan also referred to Yıldırım's experience saying "PKK assaulted with rifles in Van, and CHP assaulted in Adana with fists and insults" likening the two incidents to eachother, drawing parallels between outlawed PKK and the main opposition CHP.

CHP DEMANDS YILDIRIM TO BE RELEASED

Main opposition CHP's deputy for Adana, Ayhan Barut demanded Eren Yıldırım to be released from prison, "they are like the outlaws, both guilty and powerful. Our local youth unit chairperson Eren Yıldırım is the actual victim in this incident while he is being targeted through a perception campaign by AKP and with their pressure against judiciary, now he is arrested. Yet, we will not leave this matter unattended. We will not bow down to their unlawful actions to pretend as if they are rightful and strong when they are actually the criminals. We want freedom for Eren Yıldırım. CHP's lawyer Celal Çelik also commented on Eren Yıldırım's arrest, "the judiciary who did not arrest a single person when there was an actual lynching attempt against CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has heard the calling from Erdoğan and acted in accordance. We will hold unlawfullness accountable. We will file criminal complaint against the prosecutor and judge who gave these orders to arrest Eren Yıldırım unlawfully."
